1 August 1945

The great month of expectation, of something really big happening. Pretty well clear of alarms last night.

Yasume today. Roll Call and Reveille one hour later.

Inspection of Japanese clothing this morning as some of the men have been caught out selling it down the mine. They have not only had one hell of a beating up but put in the Ice Box for a few days without food, made to work in the mine during the day and to stand to attention the whole time they are in the cells.

A fairly restful day on the whole although the food was very short, as it is on Yasume day.

The latest rumour is that British and American troops are in Korea.
