Breakfast and mid-day meals rather small.

The Sgt Major has been damnable again today; this is no doubt due to the rumour about Russia being confirmed and that hostilities have commenced.

Quite a fair meal this evening: a bowl of pap, 1/2 bread and a portion of soup with some vegetables in this time.

Well the first of the rumours has come true, this should help to get us free much quicker than we otherwise would do. It appears that Manchuria and Korea have been attacked and the declaration was made on the 9th, and on the 9th 1100 planes bombed Northern Japan and the fleet sailed in and bombarded the coast around Tokyo.

It is also said that America has brought 1/2 million of troops into this area within the last two months.

Got 2/3rds packet of tobacco today.
