12 July 1945

Rained heavily all night and although raining hard this morning we still had to hall in for work and got soaked through whilst waiting to march off. Finally, we were dismissed back to our huts. Meanwhile the Squad Leader·got a pretty good beating up over the head with a stick by the Guard Commander for apparently reporting the wrong number on parade. As a matter of fact the number reported was correct, but it appears that the Guard Commander who is a bad egg wanted to find an excuse for giving a beating up.

The matter was reported to the Sergeant who is all powerful, but the only satisfaction obtained was that he will tell the Guard they must not do these things.

An attempt is going to be made to report it to the Camp Commander through the Interpreter but I don't suppose there will be any further satisfaction got out of it .

Up to mid-day we have had quite a restful time, and, in our weak state of health through shortage of food the rest was really appreciated and beneficial.

Got an issue of 20 Japanese cigarettes.

Even with all the rain and thunder storms it appears there were a couple of raids last night.

Had a cheese sauce with the evening meal and it was certainly satisfying.
