"The war is over"
The rumour has now grown to this but such optimism was killed last night as there was a black out on.
Same rumour is on the go again. The 22nd is the great day.
On the 22nd she says the' Commander is leaving, also that it is going to be Yasume day. Again on the 22nd we are each going to get a Red+ parcel. But the greatest of all on this great day is that the Japanese are signing up the agreement.
It is difficult to understand the mentality of these people as the following will show. We have in the Camp some lame and disabled PoWs who have to hobble around on crutches. They are made to go out with the main party, presumably to work, although they never do anything when they get there. It must be very fatiguing for them in having to march to and from the mine.
Butter with the evening meal but no stew, still, it's not so bad with the beans in the rice.
