7 September 1945
Had another run out today to the small town we first arrived at on our way to this Camp; it was just as dead and poverty stricken as the village we visited yesterday. We could not get anything to eat or drink and the only useful thing procurable was a small knife for a Yen, not very good but it will be very useful.
We went on by train (no such thing as paying fare) to a fair sized town called Orio, this again was just as poverty stricken but managed to buy a couple of walking sticks. Met two Officers there from No 6 Camp, three miles out of the town. They have been getting plenty of supplies by air and had not had a rice meal for two weeks.
I hear the Wing Commander has returned with an empty lorry but with his arms full for his own personal use.
