3 June 1945

Yasume day, also celebrating the King's birthday.

Started off well with Reveille and Roll Call one hour later. Breakfast was quite a good meal with rice and prunes, made up like a baked cake, and sweetened coffee.
After breakfast all sleeping mats and bedding had to be put outside and all floor boards cleaned and removed and the space below thoroughly cleaned out. During this we had to parade for good news from the Interpreter, to the effect that everybody was to be allowed to send a cablegram of 10 words as a reward for their good work.

Got packet of chocolate issued. Just got floor boards and bedding back with a good sprinkling of flea powder in time for the midday meal which was quite good, rice with broad beans cooked through it and about 1/2 doz cockles.

Second dose of inoculation started at 2 o/c. Got 2 packets American cigarettes, one for Yasume day and one for the King's birthday.

A couple of interesting rumours are circulating to the effect that more Red+ has arrived on the Island, and, that all Ranks are being sorted into Camps by nationalities, it so, I am of the opinion that it portends the nearing of the end.

The evening meal was the best we have had in this Camp. Rice with broad beans - onion top stew - cheese sauce and a small flat bread roll.

Rumour of the war being all over out here are now doing the rounds.
